The World Quizzing Championship (WQC) is coming to Kollam, the gateway to Kerala’s beautiful backwaters, with their incredibly rich flora-fauna and natural habitats ranging from the sea to lakes, mountains, rivers, forests, and vast green fields. Kollam is the cashew trading and processing centre of the country. This famous port, extolled in glowing terms by Marco Polo and Ibn Batuta, was once a part of the international spice trade. This historic tourist destination is also known for Ashtamudi Lake, which serves as the royal entrance to the magnificent backwaters.
The Proctor of this event is Mr George Mathews, a Post Graduate student in MA English Literature with Communication Studies from Christ University, Bangalore.
He is a blooming writer, social worker, quizzer, storyteller and motivational speaker. He hails from Chenkulam, a beautiful village in the Kollam District of Kerala. He was the Former State President of Akhila Kerala Balajanasakhyam, the largest children’s initiative in Asia under the auspices of Malayala Manorama. He has initiated many social service activities, quiz programs and leadership training programs for students all across the state. He was awarded the HG Mathews Mar Epiphanios Memorial Yuva Pratibha Award 2018 for his meritorious services rendered to youth & children in society. He has co-authored several anthologies, written many articles in various magazines and is credited for remarkable research papers in UGC Care Listed & International Peer-Reviewed Journals. Recently, George translated a book “Cricket Mania” from Malayalam to English which was published by Sahithy Publishers and officially released by Sri George Onakkoor, the renowned Indian novelist.
He has an excellent track record of being the Head Prefect of Mar Baselios School, Maruthamonpally and was the Secretary of Agami Debating Society, the English Association “Literati” and the Centre for Gandhian Studies of Gregorian College of Advanced Studies, Thiruvananthapuram. He is a two-time winner of CBSE State Level Kalotsav. He has bagged several prizes in Quiz competitions & has organised many programs as a Quiz Master.
The event is to be held in Velichikkala, a beautiful village near Kaithakuzhy in the Kollam district in Kerala. Velichikkala TIME KIDS is an exceptional pre-school institution which offers a wholesome, fun-filled and memorable educational experience for kids. It is designed to make the transition from home to school easy, by providing them with a warm, safe, caring and learning environment that young children have at home.
We are excited to have Mr George Mathews as our Kollam Zone Proctor. The event will be on the 4th of June at the TIME Kids, Velichikkala on 4 June 2022 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
